Airport security has become quite a process. Want access to the gates? You go through security. It’s serious scrutiny: boarding pass in hand, shoes off, pockets emptied, laptops and liquids out, you slowly walk through a metal detector or stand with hands over your head in a body scanner. It can be unsettling. But if you have nothing to hide, you pass through the security checkpoint with confidence.
What about access to God? The thought can be unsettling. But you can approach God with confidence!
How? Doesn’t God’s living, active, penetrating word scrutinize us more than an airport scanner? Don’t we have plenty we don’t want God to see?
Sure. And our sin is nothing new to Jesus; our high priest isn’t surprised to see our sin. He knows about sin. He was tempted to sin. Yet he successfully avoided sin in his own life. And he sacrificed his perfect, sinless life for our sin. He takes away our sin and gives us access to God.
So, cling tightly to Jesus, our high priest. He’s better than a boarding pass—he’s our personal escort to God. He died and rose again and went up through the heavens for us.
So, approach God with confidence. Heavenly rest is yours through Jesus.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, my high priest, you have taken away all my sin. With you at my side, I come to God with confidence. Bring me to my heavenly rest. Amen.
